The Arts and Crafts movement emerged to reform design and decoration in mid 19th century; focusing upon individuality and craftsmanship. The Movement sought clarity of form, use of ornament and traditional construction.

The Movement promoted romanticism, a desire for truth of material, structure and function.

The leaders of the movement: John Ruskin, William Morris, Philip Webb, CFA Voysey and Charles Robert Ashbee.
