Often mentioned as an accessory to the stories of more famous rulers like Tutankhamun and the Ramessides, Horemheb is even so one of the most influential figures in the New Kingdom. He is one of the best documented pharaohs, yet overshadowed by those who came before and after him. His reign saw a return to tradition and the rise of new standards which would drive developments in Egypt for generations to come. Some believe he is the last pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty, some think he is the first of the 19th – but what if both were true? In this course we look at Horemheb’s life and times and the lasting impact of his reign on Egyptian history.
