CERI THOMAS

Art History

We still have only a partial picture of art in Wales in the twentieth century.

One large gap is any examination and celebration of the London-born painter, writer and curator David Bell (1915-59) and the Leeds-born curator and former pianist Kathleen Armistead (1902-71) and their pioneering roles within the modern Welsh art scene.

This course will consider both pioneers, their interest in modern art and their promotion of the modern artist in Wales.

It accompanies a related art exhibition ‘Shaping Wales: Bell and Armistead at the Glynn Vivian’ curated by Ceri Thomas, and it heralds a new book ‘Shaping Wales: David Bell, Kathleen Armistead and the Modern Artist’ written by the same.

14th, 21st, 28th November and 5th December at Insole Court 2.00 – 4.00  £90
