Claudius (41-54CE) was the only one in the Imperial family brave enough to put a coin on the tongue of the formidable Livia in order for her to move into the next world. He suffered with mild cerebral palsy but the army chose him to become the next emperor and he rewarded the legions with a huge campaign, the invasion of Britannia.
This emperor was a planner with a gift for administration and successfully secured most of the new province. He travelled to Britannia to accept the surrender accompanied by elephants. He even named one of his children Britannicus. Claudius begins our studies on Roman Britain
