In this course we will follow the life story of Cleopatra VII Thea, the last Ptolemaic ruler and last independent ruler of Egypt. We will use literary and archaeological sources to better understand this queen, who was much maligned and much idealised in turn in popular culture. We will also look at new discoveries regarding Cleopatra and what still remains to be unearthed.
