John Major, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown David Cameron. The governments of these four post Thatcher political leaders is the theme for this course. To what extent did Margaret Thatcher reverse Britain’s economic decline? To what extent did she fundamentally change the political and social climate of the country? Did Margaret Thatcher create a new political consensus? Her admirers are besotted in their admiration of her greatness, while her detractors scorn her alleged achievements. The period begins in 1990 and ends in 2015; but her legacy continues to reverberate right up to the present day.
