Eluned is a qualified Welsh teacher educated at the former Glamorgan College of Education, Barry. She has taught Welsh as a second language at secondary school level and, later, as a relief teacher, she taught all curriculum subjects through the medium of Welsh at Welsh medium primary schools. She then moved to the St Fagans National Museum of History, typing transcripts for the Department of Oral Traditions and Dialects and later became a Museum Assisitant in the Department of Documentation. At a later date, she became a subtitler at a language centre, where she was head of the subtitling unit for six years, subtitling Welsh programmes for S4C.
Having completed a part-time postgraduate certificate course in translating at Bangor and Aberystwyth Universities, and gaining membership of ‘Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru’, she joined Culturenet Cymru at the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, translating digital documents for the Library’s Welsh History and Culture website. She was also employed by the Learning Disability Organization, Mencap Cymru. More recently, she has been working from home as a freelance translator. With regards to teaching, Eluned is keen to promote the strongholds of the Welsh language to enable students to use the language at its best; she believes it is in this way that it has held its own for centuries and will continue to do so for centuries to come.
Outside the employment situation she has thoroughly enjoyed walking in the mountains in Eryri and also the French Pyrenees and the Himalayas. She also enjoys reading, contemporary dance and learning about the varied cultures of indigenous people world-wide.
She has two children, two grandchildren and a life-loving dog called Mali.
