This is a timely novel for us today as the author exposes the effects of technology, social and environmental changes that creep up on us. The novel is an example of dystopian modernity with its insidious twists.

J.G.Ballard (1930-2009) was an English novelist, short story writer and essayist. He faces the reader with fascism and consumerism which are blurred in the suburban society in which the novel is set. There is an underlying dulling of the senses of the majority through the gloss of consumerism and the dangers of jingoism.
